SaltyBot

SaltyBot is the reader behind Salty's site import. It
identifies itself as SaltyBot/1.0 (+https://usesalty.com/bot).
What it does
- It reads a page only when a business that uses Salty has chosen that page of its own website and confirmed it owns the site.
- When a business types its site's address, SaltyBot suggests pages to
choose from. For that it reads only the site's robots.txt, its sitemap
(and at most a few sitemaps an index lists) and a short list of common
addresses such as
/pages/faq. - It reads at most ten pages per import or check, about one a second, and does not follow links, crawl or read any other site.
- A business can ask for its chosen pages to be checked again once a week. A weekly check reads the same pages, and nothing else.
- It follows robots.txt. If robots.txt cannot be read, it reads nothing.
- It does not run JavaScript, log in or submit forms.
- It keeps no copy of the pages: only the facts the business approves, with the page address and a short quote.
Blocking or allowing it
To block SaltyBot, add this to your robots.txt:
User-agent: SaltyBot
Disallow: /
If you use Salty and an import says robots.txt does not allow SaltyBot, allow it for the pages you chose, or paste their text into the Knowledge page instead.
